Scope note
Colorless liquid solvent with an oily odor comprising any of four types of flammable liquid alcohol containing four carbons and used chiefly in organic synthesis and as a solvent. Of the four isomeric forms (n-butanol, isobutanol, t-butanol, sec-butanol), normal butanol is the most common.
